What do Dinosaurs and Copper have in common?

One has been extinct for millions of years and the other is rapidly becoming extinct.

It’s not really big news that Verizon and AT&T are rapidly retiring their legacy copper networks. What is unknown to most business owners is that the data or voice service in your office may be completely reliant on copper services provided by Verizon. While you may not be a Verizon customer, there is a good chance that your telecom provider is a reseller of Verizon copper services.

These services include:

  • T-1’s
  • T-3’s
  • Ethernet over Copper (a.k.a. EOC)
  • POTS phone lines including alarm and elevator lines
  • DSL (more for residential)

Over the past few months, we have been swamped with requests from Verizon resellers and direct customers of Verizon to QUICKLY provide an alternative to copper access loops which will “soon” be retired. What does “soon” mean? How about January 1, 2022.

Imagine an office in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens or the Bronx with 50 phone lines and EOC providing data and internet connectivity, receiving a notice from their telecom provider that they need to get off the copper network in 45 days? Ouch!

Why is Skywire Networks seeing an increase in demand as Verizon’s copper network is getting retired? Simple, we deliver gigabits of high-speed internet connectivity to commercial buildings and residential MDU’s over our own proprietary network. We serve thousands of customers today and have lit more than 1,500 commercial buildings in NYC. Our current network footprint in NYC metro reaches more than 100,000 buildings and hundreds of thousands of businesses.
