City will bring high-speed broadband to digital deserts in Brooklyn and Queens

The city's Economic Development Corp. has launched a program to wire industrial business zones in Brooklyn and Queens. Two providers will offer speeds up to 1 gigabit per second.

City Hall may be stalled so far in its fight with Verizon over its FiOS deployment, but it is making progress on another front in its campaign for universal broadband access. The city Economic Development Corp. announced Wednesday the launch of a program to bring high-speed Internet access to so-called digital deserts in Brooklyn and Queens.
